Asistir a la fiesta y comer el caldo implicaba un compromiso: se debía entregar un gallo para la celebración que se realizaría en el mes de junio. El “Gallo Capitán” recibía las aves el 25 de junio y las colocaba, amarradas por las patas, a un madero. El día de la fiesta, el prioste y los acompañantes llevaban la rama con 13 gallos que se entregaban al hacendado, o a la persona homenajeada en la comunidad. Este, en reciprocidad, debía ofrecer comida y bebida a los asistentes.
This event was linked to San Juan’ celebration. Preparations began in December with the appointment of the “prioste” or “Captain Rooster”; he was required to host a party for the community where he served chicken broth.
Attending the party and receiving the broth implied a commitment: a rooster had to be delivered for the feast to be held in June. “Captain Rooster” received the roosters on June 25th and place them, tied by the legs, to some wood. On the celebration’s day, prioste and his companions carried the branch with 13 roosters, which were presented to the landowner, or the person being honored in the community. In return, that person had to organize a party where they provided food and drinks.
